Barham is the road that goes through no-man's-land between Hollywood and Burbank, from the Cahuenga Pass over the hill and down by the Warner Bros. studios. The Oakwood Apartments are short-term corporate housing -- furnished apartments basically. If he was actually living there, to me it would indicate he was kind of down on his luck (or at least without a permanent home). I'm interested to hear more of the story as it comes out.
The guy obviously had abuse issues (violence and substance), but he certainly was an outstanding musician.

Oakwood apts. are definitely small and not the spot I would think to find Rick James but you do find a lot of down on your luck celebs down there...interesting tidbit.

But...how old was the stage hand? 12? Rick looked pretty much the same (minus the excess weight) as he did in his Mary Jane days so how you could not recognize him, I will never know! -
